10:36 am - Would you believe... ...I've been so busy lately that I didn't realise what day it is today until just now. I moved my cursor over the clock on my computer to check the date, it flashed up 31 October and I went, "Ohhh yeah, it's Halloween! And NaNo starts at midnight! Holy crap!"
( Now I'm panicking slightly... but in a good way! )

12:55 pm - Hello everyone! I've just run amok on The LJ-NaNoWriMo Friending Meme kindly hosted by soleta_nf, so a big wave to anyone who's come to check out my journal wondering who the hell has just added them.
In fact, I'm still running amok, and I'm getting kinda confused now as to who I have and haven't added so if I haven't added you and you'd like to be, don't feel slighted, just add me and I'll add you back. Likewise, if you'd like to be de-added just let me know and I'll oblige. (I'm guessing everyone posting on that thread *is* looking for new LJ/NaNo friends, but people are allowed to change their minds!)
Now for a moan (you know, to make a good impression): I'm sitting in the university library, waiting for my next class which isn't until 4pm, can't go home as I live >90 mins' train journey away, should be studying but can't settle to it, and in the last three or four hours an eebil head cold (the like of which I haven't had in years) is starting to settle in... my eyes are watering, my nose is running, my sinuses are throbbing and a nasty tickle is beginning to make its presence felt in my throat. Part of me is standing slightly aside, interestedly noting down the onset and rapid development of the various symptoms, but the rest of me is thinking it may be time to throw in the towel and get myself home to bed... the 4pm class is Italian and right now I don't think I'll have anything to contribute to it but my germs.
Right, that's it. Decision made. I am going home to bed. There may be more friending when I feel better ;)

12:11 pm - Book Meme Via celticwolf72, though I've seen it all over the place.
Apparently these are the books most often tagged as unread by LibraryThing users (of whom I am one, but I haven't got round to tagging everything yet!). The rules are to bold what you've read, italicise what you've started and not finished, strike out what you couldn't stand, put an asterix next to what you've read more than once, and underline what is on your 'to read' list.

08:26 pm - NaNo Excitement Well, this journal has been dormant for a looooooong time. To be honest, it never really got off the ground. So now I've decided to give it a shiny new life as my NaNoWriMo 2007 journal. I doubt I'll be brave enough to post any actual novel excerpts here, but I will probably use it to moan and procrastinate a lot!
At the moment I'm trying to decide which way to go with NaNoNovel 2007. There's an idea that's been brewing in my mind for about a year now which I'm really keen to start writing. The problem is that that's exactly what I did last year, which resulted in me tearing my hair out because it wasn't coming out the way I had envisaged it, and I ended up stalling at about 8,000 words, paralysed by my own crapness (clearly I need to take on board the Anne Lamott concept of shitty first drafts!).
So, I could tread that dangerous path again... or I could just start writing on 1st November and just write whatever comes into my head, not try to make it a "proper novel" but just try to write 50,000 words and see what happens. The problem with this course is that I can foresee lots of hours spent staring into space, wondering what the hell to write!
Knowing me, I'm going to keep vacillating on this one right up to 31st October...

03:01 pm - Which Chemical Element Am I?
Barium You scored 57 Mass, 26 Electronegativity, 27 Metal, and 10 Radioactivity! |
| Ahh, the isolationist. You might be in prison, or you might be living alone out in the desert with only your guns to keep you company, but you're certainly not mingling with society at large. You have little desire for what society has to offer, but if someone comes for what you have then there's going to be a rumble. Your best chance for interpersonal happiness will come after the dust settles and you and your opponent reawaken in a field of devastation that has scoured all other life from the Earth for miles around... if the opponent fought well, you can find happiness in that mutual admiration. |
|
My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:
|
You scored higher than 94% on Mass |
|
You scored higher than 33% on Electroneg |
|
You scored higher than 3% on Metal |
|
You scored higher than 60% on Radioactivity |

08:08 pm - Well look at me, aren't I great? I am such a sucker for tests, especially ones that tell me how awesome I am:
All-Around Awesome
You have: 77% SCIENTIFIC INTUITION and 77% EMOTIONAL INTUITION | | The graph on the right represents your place in Intuition 2-Space. As you can see, you scored well above average on emotional intuition and well above average on scientific intuition. (Weirdly, your emotional and scientific intuitions are equally strong.) |
| Your Emotional Intuition score is a measure of how well you understand people, especially their unspoken needs and sympathies. A high score score usually indicates social grace and persuasiveness. A low score usually means you're good at Quake.
Your Scientific Intuition score tells you how in tune you are with the world around you; how well you understand your physical and intellectual environment. People with high scores here are apt to succeed in business and, of course, the sciences. | | | |
My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 99% on Scientific | | You scored higher than 99% on Interpersonal |

11:11 pm - Inaugural post I have to confess I'm a little scared, so I will take refuge in list-making, as usual.
My LJ Fears
1. I will get foot-in-mouth disease and spark off epic flame wars with my tactless comments.
2. I will never actually write anything here and it will fizzle out.
3. No one will ever read this journal.
4. People *will* read it and will point and laugh.
5. I will never learn how to work this damn thing.
6. I will keep it up but will have Nothing To Say.
Ok, enough. Back to HBP.
